Jiu Jitsu Gi

Origins: Kimono or Gi these words originate from the Japanese words:
- KIMONO > KI= wear and MONO=thing
- KEIKOGI > KEIKO=train and GI=clothes and the mostly used is
- DOGI > DO=way and GI=clothes

Fabrics:
- Jackets - Jackets are made of weave fabrics that vary from single, double, gold, peral, crystal, honeycomb. The weave determines the weight of the Gi which is very important when making a choice.
- Pants - Pants are made of ripstop fabric which is more thick, sturdy and stiff and it is legally banned to be used for jackets. The predecessor of ripstop was cotton drill.
This is a weave that is not seen too much these days. The pattern included diagonal ribs, providing thickness, and sturdiness. The same weave is used for pants in other martial arts, from Judo to Karate and Taekwondo.

Weight: The weight parameter is GSM (Grams per Sqare Meter).
According to the GSM the weights of the Gis vary from
- 350gms and less are lightweight Gis;
- 450gs, are regular and
- 550gsm are heavy weigth/premium category.
